"FALL IN LOVE WITH THE UNDEFEATED '57 UNC NATIONAL CHAMPION TAR HEELS FOR THE FIRST TIME, OR ALL OVER AGAIN!"
Hollywood screenwriters could not have scripted a more compelling sports storyline than that showcased in the new documentary, McGuire’s Miracle!
The definitive account of the magical, undefeated 1956-57 University of North Carolina men’s National Champion basketball season, McGuire’s Miracle is an expertly crafted film that skillfully captures the miraculous events and colorful personalities that fueled one of the most legendary sports stories ever. The cast of this timeless tale is headed by the charismatic Big Apple born-and-bred head coach, Frank McGuire, who brought with him to Chapel Hill the best-of-the-best players that the New York City metropolitan area had to offer. The film’s supporting cast includes the influential and colorful characters that were a vital part of the early years of the Atlantic Coast Conference.
To provide that sterling “Hollywood ending,” the incredible ’56-57 season was capped in storybook fashion as the UNC Tar Heels defeated a Wilt Chamberlain-led Kansas Jayhawks team in triple overtime for the national collegiate title. Many sports historians concur that the 1957 NCAA championship game between the Heels and Jayhawks was the greatest college basketball game ever played!
A “new kind of documentary,” McGuire’s Miracle is a hybrid between a traditional documentary and a feature film, as it successfully appeals to both a younger and older audience, as well as to both men and women. With a runtime of 2 hours, 44 minutes, the film’s strength lies in its ability to transcend the traditional sports story filmic formula, as it entertains with warmth, humor and immersion into the period of the late 1950s.
In capturing the magic of this incredible 32-0 season, McGuire’s Miracle has been carefully crafted and draws from over fifty interviews, a rich archive of still photos and video footage, articles, and current on-camera interviews featuring the ’57 players. It also pays homage to the wonderful music written in the mid-twentieth century, which is known as the “golden age” of songwriting, as the production contains 140 tunes, ranging from Great American Songbook standards to period jazz and rock ’n’ roll — along with some operatic pieces and country music thrown in for spice!
Among the production’s attributes, McGuire’s Miracle has several opening animated, musical menus that provide the capability of navigating to any one of 13 sections of the film, along with providing easy access to the production's two official trailers. The DVD case comes placed in a handsomely designed complementary slipcase, which is trimmed with a metallic gold stretch loop and bow. As well, custom printed artwork representing the ’57 period is displayed on the front of a tastefully designed black envelope whose contents hold further information about the film (see image in "Purchase the McGuire's Miracle Documentary" window pane as you scroll down the website).
To further appreciate McGuire’s Miracle, it's important to note that in the late ‘50s, television was just finding its audience. Consequently, this unique story is particularly significant as 1957 marks the period when collegiate basketball became a "media darling,” due to the national excitement this Tar Heel team generated. So, as there are many giants that underpin the alluring fever called “March Madness,” perhaps the one great Goliath amongst them can be traced back to a North Carolina village called Chapel Hill, where a cocky cadre of street-smart New Yorkers took the South - and the nation - by storm!

"Amazing! Fantastic film!"
"I was just blown away! You captured my Grandfather perfectly and he would love the film!"
"I just loved the film! In watching again, my knocking the ball away from Wilt Chamberlain at the end of the '57 National Championship game, I got up there pretty good!"
"McGuire's Miracle is beautifully executed, very well-written and very impressive. It beautifully captures the personality and character of Frank McGuire, as well as the North Carolina/New York City connection. The side stories are terrific and the homage paid to Assistant Coach Buck Freeman and to Sportscast Producer, Castleman D. Chesley, is magnificent. The humor is great and the music made me want to get up and dance! All in all, the film is very well thought out and very tastefully done!"
"Bravo! My jaw is sore from smiling and I'm not sure if I blinked throughout the entire movie! I loved it and have been bursting at the seams! The attention to detail is remarkable and the production is truly a piece of art. To call the film a "documentary" does not do it justice. With McGuire's Miracle, you've created a new genre in sports films!"
"I'm proud to have been a member of this incredible group of student-athletes, all of whom graduated to lead successful lives. I extend my gratitude to FilmNC Capital Management, the producer of this extraordinary film!"
"An informative and entertaining film about the 1956-57 national champion North Carolina Tar Heels, a team that had one of the most remarkable - and, yes, miraculous - seasons in college basketball history with its 32-0 record topped off by two triple overtime wins in what is now called the Final Four. Does an especially good job of telling the story behind the championship, the story of Frank McGuire and his New York City recruits - four Catholics and a Jew - who captured the attention and the hearts of what was then an almost all-Protestant North Carolina. A film that captures the times as well as an unprecedented (and unmatched since) basketball season. "
Celebrating the science fiction movie genre in its 1950s heyday, this playful 1:20 minute McGuire's Miracle "teaser" captures the Sci-Fi themes of this decade. Movie goers sipped on cokes and munched on buttered popcorn as they watched popular films such as The Day the Earth Stood Still, Invasion of the Body Snatchers and The Blob.
